THE VINHO POIO STORY
Our family has loved and laboured these mountain slopes of Trás-Os-Montes for generations.
The vineyard sits on a plot of land best known locally as Terra Nova. Set over three acres, the terraces offer stunning views of the forests, natural springs and wildlife that surround them.
Terra Nova has been in our family for over three decades. Having previously appreciated it as a trusted place for cultivating their own vines, fruit and other crops, our parents, António and Zulmira, were never in any doubt about the potential for this land as a place for growing quality vines.
Today, we honour António’s memory and reweave his vision for the land in our own passion project.
Although a little distance away from the Alvarinho heartland, the conditions of Terra Nova are ideal for the cultivation of ‘green’ wines. And so, with the support and guidance of viticulturalist Vitor Boal of Casa Boal, we planted our first cuttings in the Spring of 2015. Year on year, the results continue to impress and are a reflection of the unfaltering commitment of all those who play their part in nurturing the land and the project.
